Richest of the Scent makers

I was in a store looking for a new fragrance the other day, when I came across an ENTIRE isle, purely dedicated to celebrity perfumes!

Nowadays, if you're a "celebrity" and you have no fragrance and/or clothing line, you are as good as Jessica Simpson's country music career...

It used to be only a few celerities, like J.Lo and Celine Dion, who made fragrances, and that was refreshing and new, but now? Uurgh, any-freaking-body can have a fragrance, it has gotten so old and boring..
But enough bitching from me,I've decided to review 5 celebrity fragrance ads, based on theparticular celebrity's rank on the Forbes list 2010 :), cos it has to be selling well if they made it onto the Forbes list right...?

Here we go...first up, Beyonce Knowles, with her first perfume, Heat. I love the ad, the catch phrase, just the whole concept of it, and having earnings of $87 million in the past year, Beyonce shows no signs of slowing down.
Judge for yourself...thoughts?

Next up is Britney Spears, with earnings estimated at $64 million in the past year alone,Britney's fragrances rank among the world's best selling fragrances, which would explain those millions!!! Damn!
With her 6th ( I think..) fragrance, titled "Radiance" she went with more or less the same ad as "Curious" and "Fantasy" which is not to say that I don't like it...I'm just not crazy about it...what do you think?

Next up is Jennifer Aniston, at $27 million in earnings in the past year. This was her first fragrance. I hate the ad. I see no sign of her fragrance bottle, its name. NOTHING.
All I see is poor little Jennifer Aniston, sitting on some rocks with a little blankie. I wouldn't so much as touch this fragrance. What a nasty nasty ad, which is a pity cos I love her! I absolutely adore her, but her ad sucks. Period.
I searched for a photo of her promoting the ad so you could at least see the name of the perfume and everything. Hopefully it has a gorgeous, elegant scent, to make up for the crappy ad...

Up next is the woman who embodied  Carrie Bradshaw!!!! I love Sarah Jessica Parker just for that: Sex and the City. Which would maybe explain why she decided to name her scent SJP NYC...at least that's my theory. I won't go into it in detail, but here goes: love the colours, the ad is funky, but she looks really fugly in those ads...unfortunately.
I doubt she gives a damn though, she made herself  $25 million in the past year, fugly or not, girl is laughing all the way to the bank!!

Last but not least, my fellow Capricorn, and super stylish fashionista, Kate Moss. This is her 3rd perfume ( again...I think) and its titled "Vintage" which is something, if you've been following the blog,i LOVE!!

The ad corresponds with the name of the fragrance, it's beautiful, elegant, vintage and it gives you this feeling of chic simplicity, i really do love it. I also happened to have tested this one, it smells divine! Add to that the fact that she netted herself  $9 million, while she doesn't sing, act or dance...I say well done Mossy.

P.S. just so you know, all the above-mentioned celebrities, except for Jennifer Aniston, have their own clothing lines...maybe I'll preview my top 5 celebrity clothing lines for my next post..watch the space!!

The September Issues

Anyone who is mad about mags knows that the September issue is the year's biggest issue, especially for major fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar,I-D to name but a few.

I got my hands on my very first issue of a Vogue magazine last year when I went to Austria ( although I had been reading various issues online prior to that).
It was a UK Vogue with Claudia Schiffer on the cover with my last Euro, so in contemplation as to what I could or would blog about with regards to the September issues, I decided to focus completely on Vogue magazines, more specifically, the BIG 5 and their covers: Vogue Nippon (Japan); UK Vogue; US Vogue; Vogue Italia and Vogue Paris.

Here goes...

Vogue Italia Sept 2010 issue
First up is Vogue Italia, who ventured into relatively unknown territory with a 3D cover featuring Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda Kerr, and while the cover is exquisite and the 3D aspect is a unique and innovative touch, I have to pose the question as to Miranda's relevance or current allure for that matter.
She's currently in the news for her "super secret" wedding to actor Orlando Bloom in July and the conformation of her much speculated about pregnancy (she's 4 months along)....hardly anything that has much to do with fashion...thoughts?

US Vogue Sept 2010
Next up is US Vogue, headed by the formidabble Anna Wintour, and they feature actress Halle Berry for their September issue. It has become so common for US Vogue to feature celebrities on what is supposedly a FASHION magazine, I find this somewhat disappointing.
Aesthetically, Miss Berry looks amazing, as always, but I would have preffered her natural jet-black crop to this weird wig....

Vogue Paris Sept 2010

The world is head over heels in love with Marion Cottilard ( she still haunts me as her beautiful yet disturbed Inception character Maud...), which is probably why Carine Roitfeld (editor of Vogue Paris) put her on the cover. I still maintain my argument with regards to celebrities on fashion magazine covers, but I will say that this cover is exceptionally beautiful, it captures you the minute you lay your eyes on it, the colours are striking and give you a feeling of depth and intrigue. Beautiful, u agree?

UK Vogue Sept 2010

I love me some Kate Moss, but how many times are we gonna see her on UK Vogue covers?? This is her 30th cover!!!!!! THIRTIETH. The novelty wore off ages ago, maybe on her 19th one...so unfortunate, cos she IS amazing, I'm just over the Vogue covers.
Maybe she could start her own magazine and be on every cover, like Oprah. Now that would be different.

Vogue Nippon Sept 2010
Ahhh!! This is so refreshing! A major fashion magazine, with a major supermodel who has starred in all major fashion campaigns! How's that for relevance?
Vogue Japan blessed our eyes with a beautiful cover featuring one of the world's most successful supermodels, Russian beauty Natasha Poly ( last seen in the Gucci ads). I'm im love with EVERYTHING from the hair, the colours, the pose. It's all just breath-taking, and by far, my favourite September issue of them all.

I have to ponder the following though: why would Japanese Vogue...put a Russian girl on the cover...and then proudly exclaim "AMERICAN BEAUTY"....?

Thoughts??Comments?? Which is your favourite cover? and why?

MARCHESA PRESENTATION SPRING/SUMMER 2011

She said she loves vintage shopping!!!! Didn't know it was possible to get even more obsessed with Keren and Georgina Chapman than I already am, but it is....VINTAGE clothing is the FUTURE!!

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

So, as is always my ritual after any fashion week, I have to choose my TOP looks, and seeing that I'm a BLOGGER now ( I really should get over it by now..but alas..) I've decided to share them with you.

These are looks that I would not only wear (if I had a gazillion dollars) but looks that in my opinion, will make the most gorgeous vintage wardrobe staples in the years to come.

New York Fashion Week has drawn its curtains, and left the fashion hungry starving for more, and with many fashion articles heralding Marc Jacobs' looks as their highlights of the Spring 2011 season, I beg to differ, but that's the beauty of fashion: it's art, therefore, subjective.

Below are my favourite looks from red-carpet favourites Marchesa and singer-turned-designer maestro Victoria Beckham.

Marchesa, in my opinion, can do NO wrong, judge for yourself and tell me what you think.

Here comes Victoria's beautiful and fashionable efforts, I'm in love with the mustard yellow dress!!

African Sunsets

I have SUCH an obsession with awesome sunsets, and living in Africa, its safe to say I'm in sunset heaven!!

That being said, I have decided to share some of my fave pics of what I deem to be glorious sunsets for all those living in concrete jungles or those who just share my appreciation for all beautiful things.

Most have been taken in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa, which comes highly recommended by me if you're looking for a beautiful holiday break, be it the Wild Coast or the Drakensberg or the Addo Elephant Park....I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm trying to get across here....so back to the sunsets...

Miriam Makeba aka the late Mama Africa, whom I still love and adore, had a song titled "African Sunset" and I reckon it's only fitting that it be the soundtrack to these images, I've posted the link below: ENJOY!!!

I hope they take your breath away as powerfully as they did mine...
